The Healing Power of Nature

Art by Elvina Munir

Natural law asserts that any organism placed into an environment of stress will respond in an equal and opposite way to maintain balance. Ideally, if we get sick our body responds in exactly the opposite way to the sickness thus completely returning us to health. Unfortunately, our bodies' may react in a disharmonious way pushing back against the illness in an equal but not wholly opposite way. This is when we experience symptoms. This is when we perceive stress as “bad”.

Stress in fact is not bad but a necessary element to our survival. Stress should not be completely avoided either. As stated above it is stress that allows for our adaptation, our evolution. Our bodies' use stress as a signal to adapt to changes in our environment. Our stress reactions are what allow us to cope (believe it or not).

So why are we getting so sick?

Modern life has out paced the stress levels our bodies' are capable of adapting to, as evidenced by the steady rise in chronic illness. Additionally each of us responds to stress differently. The way we respond determines if our bodies move through the stress and are stronger for it or get stuck and feel depleted and worn down from it.

Trusting that Nature knows best Naturopathic doctors assist and encourage you to surround yourself in a supportive environment of good food, clean water, and loving relationships so that your body can heal in its own individual way.
